Beneath a Dead City | Steam Capsule design & Logo design

Huuuge thank you to Josh for letting me design the Steam capsule for his game, Beneath a Dead City! As the game's developed in pixel art, we opted for a minimalist visual style with the game palette as a protagonist. As the game focuses on its narrative part, I wanted to give the artwork a book cover-like look.

I had LOTS of fun working on this one, as the output was 100% within my artistic style and every step was a learning opportunity, thanks to a client who is very well-versed in the indie scene (and the fact that I created this early in my career as a Steam capsule artist). We finished this capsule back in april 2024 and I couldn't wait to publish this one, as it's still one of my faves.

I already envisioned a precise idea on how the capsule should have gone, and luckily the client agreed with my concept

The classic "people watching the horizon" trope is charming for a reason, but we wanted to branch from that so I got creative with using people for storytelling

The coloring phase went really smooth thanks to a predefined palette from the game, so it was all about subtle shifts to set the desired mood

A mockup is always mandatory in order to truly understand how the capsule stands in the Steam client

Great care was dedicated to the small capsule, recognizing its outsized role in showcasing indie games of this caliber. Basically, it's the first (and often only) point of contact with the game

As every gameplay lets you create a different story, we opted to create two additional variants
